Last, but certainly not least, in this year’s series of portfolios comes from Destiny Palik, a graduate student in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology. Destiny is one of the students who had very little experience in photography when she signed up for the workshop. She took my message about the importance of visual storytelling to heart, and produced a portfolio she can be proud of, and which tells the story of urban ecology in central Ohio.

A city is an urban ecosystem where living things interact within the context of an environment that is both natural and built. The living things include not only humans but also plants and other wildlife. The natural environment includes things like climate and geology, while roads, water mains, and power lines are part of the built infrastructure.
